OH girls win SBC title for 4th consecutive year

For the fourth straight season and fifth time in six years, the Oak Harbor girls track team came away victorious at the Sandusky Bay Conference Meet.

Behind five first-place finishes, the Rockets came away with 139 points, just ahead of Edison (119). Perkins was third (96.5), St. Mary CC fourth (92), followed by Clyde, Port Clinton, Huron and Margaretta.

Individual winners from Oak Harbor included Jordan Giesler (discus) and Athena Eli (400) and Morrisa Mallory was first in the shot put for Port Clinton.

Oak Harbor boys win sectional title

After nearly blowing a four-run lead, the Oak Harbor Rockets held on to defeat Western Reserve, 5-4, in a Division III Sectional Final.

A.J. Cecil reached on a walk and scored in the first and Andy Rathbun had a two-run single to push the lead to 4-0 after three innings.

The Roughriders would respond, scoring one run in the fourth before cutting the deficit to 5-4 before falling short.

Cecil got the win for the Rockets, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up three runs (none earned). He allowed four hits, struck out five and walked two. Brandon Uher came on in relief to get the save.

Baumann Auto Center goes to bat for PC youth baseball

Baumann Auto Center has joined forces with the national Chevrolet Youth Baseball program to provide new equipment, a monetary contribution and invitations to free instructional clinics for Port Clinton Youth Baseball, as well as an opportunity for community members to enter the Free Chevrolet vehicle sweepstakes.

Trey Gluth to play baseball at Ohio Wesleyan

On Friday, May 10, Port Clinton Redskin senior Trey Gluth announced he will continue his education and baseball career at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. He will follow in the Ohio Wesleyan footsteps of other notable Redskins such as Jay Wierzba, Eric Heise and Matt Rhode.

At Port Clinton High School Gluth earned three varsity letters in baseball, was on the All Sandusky Bay Conference 1st Team in 2012 and played for Post 83 Sandusky Legion baseball team in 2012. In football, Gluth also earned 3 varsity letters, was honorable mention All-SBC in 2012 and on the SBC All-Academic team in 2012.

Gluth was on the PCHS Leadership Council, 2012 Homecoming Court, assisted with youth baseball clinics and worked as a freshman mentor and a volunteer with United Way’s summer lunch program. He plans to major in history/education at Ohio Wesleyan.

Sectional tennis tournament at Port Clinton

The NW District Division II Boys Sectional Tennis Tournament will be played at the Von Thron-Hablitzel Tennis Center at Port Clinton High School Thursday May 16th and Saturday May 18th. Play both days will start at 9 a.m. The top four Singles Players and top four Doubles Teams will advance to the DII District Tournament at BGSU on Thursday, May 23rd.
