Name: Zach Kalinoski
Height: 5' 9''
Weight: 180 lbs.
In last week's 26-18 victory over Cardinal Stritch, Zach Kalinoski was magnificent, completing 12-of-18 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns, as well as a touchdown on the ground.
Kalinoski has played well for much of the season leading the Lakers to a 2-2 record and a 1-0 mark in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference.
With six games remaining, Danbury has a chance to establish themselves as one of the TAAC's better teams. Becoming a mid-level team in the conference is the next step the Lakers must take as they attempt to become one of the league's top teams. With a dynamic offense and a defense that is improving, it is certainly a possibility.
It won't be easy. Competing in a conference with the likes of Northwood, Ottawa Hills and Edon, three teams that qualified for the playoffs last season, the Lakers have their work cut out for them.
But the team has made progress. Several years ago, there was talk that the football program would be done away with and now the team has won three games in back-to-back seasons after experiencing no- and one-win seasons for several years.
Kalinoski, along with fellow seniors Branden Bahnsen (WR/DB), David Gast (RB/LB) and Chance Mackel (WR/DB), is hoping to turn around the program and believes that hope is fast approaching because of its popularity that is growing with the younger people.
“We have a lot more kids that are coming out and playing football – coming out in the junior high games and pee wee,” Kalinoski said. “I just want to win games. I don't care about the stats, I just want to go out with my seniors on a high note.”
