Behind two first- and two second-place finishes, the Oak Harbor girls track team finished third out of 15 teams at the Division II District Track Meet at Oak Harbor High School last week.
Wauseon won the meet with 89.25 points, edging out Bellevue (89). Oak Harbor was third (80.75), followed by Eastwood (71), Edison (63.25) and Perkins (52). Port Clinton was 12th with 20 points. The top-four finishers in each event qualified to compete at the Div. II Regional Meet at Lexington High School this week.
On the boys side, Perkins narrowly defeated Eastwood 111.50 to 109. Edison was third (69), followed by Archbold (53), Bellevue (49) and Wauseon (44). Port Clinton was 12th with 18 points and Oak Harbor finished 15th with 15 points.
The Rocket girls' two first-place finishes came via relays with the 4x200 and 4x400 squads. The 4x200 team of Allie Jett, Karis DeWalt, Sidney Allen and Athena Eli won their event in 1 minute, 47.89 seconds and the 4x400 team of DeWalt, Sydney St. Clair, Allie Dombrowsky and Eli finished first in 4:10.41.
The Rockets and the Redskins had a total of three second-place finishers. For Oak Harbor, Eli, a freshman, finished second in the 400 (1:00.59). Allen was second in the 200 (26.87) and Morrisa Mallory of Port Clinton was second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 9 inches.
The other individual qualifiers were Trinity Gephart and Andrea Cecil of Oak Harbor. Gephart finished fourth in the 1600 (5:33.18) and 3200 (12:08.81) and Cecil was fourth in the high jump (4-10.00).
The Rockets other two relay teams also qualified with the 4x800 and 4x100 squads each finishing third. The 4x800 team of Annie Quisno, Eli, Allie Dresser and Gephart ran a time of 10:00.90 and the 4x100 team of Allen, Dombrowsky, Jett and Rebekah Rayburn finished in 52.15.
Other high finishers included Oak Harbor's Jordan Giesler (6th in discus), DeWalt (5th in 200), Dombrowsky (6th in 51.31), Rayburn (7th in 100), Dresser (7th in 800), Addie Barton (7th in pole vault), St. Clair (8th in 400), Annie Quisno (8th in 800) and Jordyn Thorp (8th in high jump).
Port Clinton's Ashtyn Baney was sixth in both the 100 (13.20) and the long jump (15-04.50) and Hannah Weaver was ninth in the 1600 (5:48.16).
Three boys qualified for a spot in the regional meet, two from Oak Harbor and one from Port Clinton.
Tyler Sievert had the highest finish for the Rockets, coming in third in the 800 (1:58.01) and Cole Weirich was fourth in the 100 (11.62). The Redskins' Cody Smith had the highest finish of any area boy, coming in second in the shot put with a throw of 59-06.50.
Other high finishers included Oak Harbor's Chris Tabbert (5th in 100 H) and Austin Apple (9th in pole vault) and Port Clinton's Cody Smith (7th in discus). The Redskins' 4x100 relay team of Jonathan Youngbar, Nathan Stubblefield, Brandon Moore and Brock Moore was sixth in 44.79.
Port Clinton's Brock Moore finished in the top-10 in three events, the 100 (11.70), the 200 (24.16) and the long jump (20-07.50).
