Danbury girls rebound to get to 6-5

Behind a combined 26 points from Erin Lavelle and Stephanie Kukay, the Danbury Lakers defeated Emmanuel Christian, 52-27, to notch their third straight victory.

The win, which put Danbury at 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference, came in convincing fashion as the Lakers built an 18-10 lead after one quarter before pushing the advantage to 25-13 at halftime.

Lavelle led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Kukay, who had 12 points. Megan Stephens finished with 11 points and Tori Wright scored six points. 

Danbury 54, Gibsonburg 43

Down 22-20 at halftime, Danbury outscored Gibsonburg by 12 points in the third quarter to take control in its 54-43 win over Gibsonburg.

The Lakers won the third quarter by a 19-7 margin to take a 39-29 lead into the final quarter.

Erin Lavelle, who had a game-high 15 points, scored the first four points of the third quarter to help Danbury take the lead for good. In fact, the Lakers scored the first nine points of the quarter to go from being down by two points to being ahead 29-22.

In addition to Lavelle’s 15 points, Stephanie Kukay finished with 12, Tori Wright had nine and Megan Stephens chipped in with eight.
