Port Clinton Kiwanis donates pediatric trauma equipment

L to R: Shannon Belcher, Danbury Township; Tim Brown, Rocky Ridge; Tom Kellogg, Erie Twp.; Will Moore, Catawba Twp.; Kassie Anderson, former Chief North Central EMS; and Trish McCartney, State Farm Insurance.

Kassie Anderson and Trish McCartney spearheaded an initiative to get updated pediatric trauma equipment to townships in Ottawa County that needed it. In January of this year Anderson and McCartney headed to the North Central EMS station in Milan to talk with them about helping obtain the equipment.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26 the equipment was donated to the area EMS units in Ottawa County by the Port Clinton Kiwanis Club through the Ohio Kiwanis Foundation at the Kiwanis weekly meeting.

The emergency personnel that received the equipment, a toddler sized backboard and a car seat, gave the Kiwanians a report on how the equipment will be used in the field.

Kassie Anderson, a former paramedic supervisor, and Trish McCartney, State Farm agent, received a grant to help local townships get infant and young children medical equipment. Erie, Danbury, Rocky Ridge and Catawba Townships were the target stations for the equipment.

“If a car seat is involved in an accident, it cannot be used again to transport children,” said Kassie. “It will not meet the safety standards. To save room and to safely transport the children, it would be best to used inflatable car seats.”
