Davis-Besse outage to generate more funds than originally expected

An updated economic impact study has found that the Davis-Besse steam generator replacement outage is going to bring in more money to the local area than expected. In the beginning of January, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company did an economic impact study that predicted $12.5 million would be added to our local economy. On Jan. 27, FirstEnergy released new numbers stating that more than $108 million, with overall economic benefits expected to exceed $150 million statewide, according to an economic study recently completed by Phoenix-based consulting firm Applied Economics.

Terra State to offer exam prep for human resource professionals

Lifelong Learning at Terra State Community College is offering a preparation course for human resource professionals who are planning to take certification exams.

This course is designed by subject matter experts and includes discussion questions, application exercises and module exams to develop specific HR competencies. Course materials assist the participant in preparing for the Human Resource Certification Institute’s Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exams.

Pheasants Forever Fundraising Banquet being held March 8

The Erie-Ottawa-Sandusky Chapter of Pheasants Forever is holding their23rd annual Fundraising Banquet on Saturday, March 8, at the Camp Perry Clubhouse. Events include: live and silent auctions; raffles and door prizes; and a catered dinner that includes prime rib, roasted chicken, side dishes and dessert. Beer and soft drinks will be provided with a cash bar for mixed drinks. Over 30 guns will be raffled off at the event.

Redskin bowlers roll best matches of the season

Port Clinton’s Redskin Bowlers rolled their best matches of the season in sweeping the varsity teams from Huron at Star Lanes at the Harbor Thursday, Jan. 23.

The Lady ‘Skins missed a school record by 1 pin by defeating the Lady Tigers 2576-2356. Port Clinton rolled games of 837-838 and added 901 in Baker, to Huron’s 788-735 and 833 in Baker. PC is now 14-0. 

“Huron’s girls have really improved,” said Redskin Coach Bob Black. “We knew we would be challenged and our girls really bowled great. Kassidy continued her outstanding bowling with a 399 series, and Alysia rolled 391. Hopefully we are peaking at the right time for the upcoming tournaments.” 

Kassidy Mahler led the ‘Skins with games of 198-201, and Alysia Zoeller rolled 204-187. Sam Stroupe added 161-182 for the ‘Skins.
