Fall Chicken Dinner at St. Paul Lutheran in Danbury

Jim Kovach, Lloyd Dayton and Matt Seamon serve dinners at last year’s fundraiser.

The annual Fall Chicken Dinner is a very old tradition at St. Paul Lutheran Church, on Church Road in Danbury Township. Open to the public, the dinner has become a popular yearly event. Church members are busy now preparing for this year’s dinner, which will be held Nov. 20. No one is sure when the tradition began, but at least one senior citizen remembers playing in the church basement as a small child while her mother helped prepare the meal.

This year’s menu features the traditional home-cooked comfort food: half a chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy, homemade applesauce, coleslaw and roll, and homemade pie.

Tickets are $9 and can be purchased by contacting a church member or by calling the church office at 419.734.1662. Advanced purchase is recommended, as the number of tickets is limited.

Dinners will be served from 4-6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20. Dine-in or carry-out are available.

Proceeds from the dinner support a number of charities in the community and worldwide relief. The event is sponsored in part by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Ottawa County Chapter 30011.
