Bikers for JDRF

It has long been said that bikers are very generous to charities that support children, and this year is no different. FriendShip Food Stores teams with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for the fourth annual motorcycle poker run on Saturday, Aug. 24th at Margaritaville in Sandusky. The ride will begin with the registration and staging of motorcycles at 12 noon. The last bike must be out by 2:30 p.m. The run will proceed from Margaritaville to five Friendship Food Store locations. First stop will be in Port Clinton, then on to Norwalk, Wakeman, Vermilion, and one Sandusky store. All bikes are to return to Margaritaville to turn in their poker hands no later than 4:30 p.m.

Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary Puppy Mill Rescue Reunion

On Sunday, Aug. 19, the Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary held a Puppy Mill Rescue Reunion. The event was held from 2-4 p.m. at the Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary located at 3620 E. State Road in Port Clinton. In attendance were Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Levorchick, Ottawa County Dog Warden Jo Lynn Hetrick and Professional Dog Trainer Chuck Stella from Elite K911. Levorchick, a parent to two rescued dogs himself, said the event was “a great opportunity to bring the dogs together again and to bring awareness to the sanctuary and its monetary needs.”

PCHS boys defeat Fremont

Port Clinton High School boys soccer began its season by defeating Fremont 8-1 on Monday. The following players had goals for Port Clinton: Simon Shulz(5), Ben Heminger(1), Josh Brown(2). Assists were given by Jacob Depner(1), Nathan Stubblefield(4), Ben Heminger(1). Port Clinton had 12 shots on goal and Fremont had 3. Saves for Port Clinton were 2 by Tytan Rumball. Fremont’s goalie had a total of 4 saves.

Ferguson and Fenton glass join creative forces

Two names that are synonymous with American made glass have joined forces to create an exclusive Marblehead Lighthouse bead. The artists at the Fenton Glass Company, which has been in business for over 108 years, will hand paint the lighthouse on each bead and fire it into the surface of the glass. The lighthouse design, which was created by Cary Ferguson’s cut glass, will be available exclusively at the Ferguson Gallery near Marblehead.

Playmakers presents “Mom’s Gift” as fundraiser

Todd Puckett is Kevin, the childhood friend and potential love interest of Kat, portrayed by Katherine Gauthier, in Playmakers' production of "Mom's Gift".

Playmakers Civic Theatre, 604 W. Sixth Street, Port Clinton, will present a pre-season fund raiser on Aug. 29 and 31.  The production is "Mom's Gift", a brand-new play by award-winning playwright Phil Olson.  The storyline reveals a warm comedy with a message.  Mom has died, but shows up at her husband's birthday party as a ghost with a mission.  Like Clarence in "It's A Wonderful Life", she has to accomplish a task to earn her wings.  What that task is will be mom's quest.  There are so many aspects of her family's relationships that need to be fixed.  The conflicts are resolved with humor and lots of love.
