Entertainment, activities announced for Appetite for the Arts

The 2013 Appetite for the Arts gala on Friday, August 16, at the Erie-Ottawa Regional Airport will be a “Red Carpet Affair,” with a preview of artists’ works, culinary delights, classic and collector cars and music by the Womack Family Band.

Those interested in attending the Aug. 16 ticketed preview event should buy tickets early, as organizers from the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council (GPCAAC) said last year’s event sold out. Tickets for Friday’s event are $35 and will be available online through and locally at Mary’s Blossom Shoppe, Bassett’s and Real Living Morgan Realty Group.


OH Farmers’ Market

Oak Harbor’s first Farmers’ Market of the season is this weekend, June 22, at Kraemer Park from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be 20 vendors with fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as baked goods and crafts.The Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce will be holding Farmers’ Markets on the fourth Saturday of each month June-October


Croghan Colonial acquiring National Bank of Ohio

Croghan Bancshares Inc., the holding company for Croghan Colonial Bank, and Indebancorp, the holding company for National Bank of Ohio announced today that they have signed a definitive agreement under which Croghan will acquire Indebancorp in a stock and cash merger transaction. Shareholders of Indebancorp will be entitled to elect to receive for each Indebancorp common share either $55 in cash, 1.630 shares of Croghan’s common stock, or a combination of cash and stock, subject to the overall consideration being 70% stock and 30% cash. Based upon the previous 20 day average closing price for Croghan of $34.40, the transaction is valued at approximately $28.9 million. The merger is expected to qualify as a tax-free reorganization. National Bank of Ohio operates four full-service branches in Oak Harbor, Port Clinton, Oregon and Curtice, and two Loan Production Offices in Perrysburg and Fremont, and has approximately $219 million of assets and $188 million of deposits. When the transaction is completed, Croghan will have approximately $850 million in assets and $718 million in deposits. The merger will enable Croghan to expand in the Ottawa, Wood, and Lucas County markets.

Lakeside Chautauqua achieves Tree City USA honor

Lakeside Chautauqua was recognized as a Tree City USA at the Northwest Ohio Awards Ceremony on April 18. This is the second year that Lakeside Chautauqua has been honored with this nationally recognized award. The awards were presented by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Forestry at the Hope United Methodist Church in Whitehouse, Ohio. Bill Smith and Frank O’Dell from the Lakeside Tree Advisory Team represented the Lakeside Chautauqua community at the presentation of the award.


Catawba Island Township trustees remind visitors of cemetery rules

Visitors to Catawba Island Cemetery are asked to adhere to cemetery rules concerning decorations. Cut flowers are permitted at any time. Artificial flowers are permitted at any time if attached to headstones in such a manner as to permit mowing and trimming. Potted plants, ceramics, and lights placed directly on the ground near a grave are not permitted. Other artificial decorations may be placed only one week before Easter, Memorial Day, and Fourth of July and must be removed one week after the holiday. Winter decorations will be allowed November 1 to the end of February. Decorations remaining after February will be removed. All grave decorations are placed at the owner’s risk.
