Redskin bowlers earn trips to Districts

Port Clinton’s Redskin boys earned their seventh consecutive trip to the OHSAA Northwest District Bowling Tournament at Interstate Lanes in Rossford on  Friday by finishing second in Sectional action at Star Lanes at the Harbor in Port Clinton last Friday. Kyle Radloff led the Redskins with 215-204-221 for a 660 series and Caleb Conrad added 182-217-205 for a 604 series. Dave Wilburn rolled a 221 game and Darryl Trent a 226 game.

Free Port Clinton™ brings new free WiFi service to Port Clinton

Local residents, tourists and ferry passengers bound for Put in Bay now have free WiFi service, thanks to a joint-venture between a local media company and digital services firm.

Free Port Clinton™ allows those with smartphones, tablets and laptop computers to log in to the Internet at no cost, through WiFi transmitters and receivers located throughout downtown Port Clinton, the Jet Express Dock, the Bassett’s Knollcrest Plaza at Routes 53 and 163 and the Miller Ferry Dock at the northern tip of Catawba Island.

Beacon marks 30 years of community publishing

In December of 1982 Ronald Reagan was President. Home mortgage interest rates were at 14-16%. The U.S. was just coming out of an inflationary spiral. Locally the Port Clinton Press, a free weekly newspaper that had been in business since 1975, was set to close its operations. The recession and hyper-inflation had taken its toll. It was just about that time when former local radio personality John Schaffner, along with his two partners, sold their broadcasting license for WKIQ FM Radio in Bowling Green. Schaffner was in an unusual position. He was looking for work again.

Coach Beau Carmon selected to lead Redskins into new era of football

Port Clinton City School District announces the selection of Beau Carmon as the new Head Football Coach. Coach Carmon was selected from a field of over fifty highly qualified applicants to lead the Redskins into the new era of Port Clinton Football. The coach selection committee consisted of representatives from administration, parents and alumni.
