Marblehead VFW Ladies Auxiliary 7572 hold Christmas party at last meeting of the year

The final meeting of 2013 and holiday party of the Marblehead VFW Ladies Auxiliary 7572 took place Nov. 26. At the meeting the group concluded unfinished business and thank you notes were received from the Holiday Bureau and the Danbury Township Fire Department. The Ladies Auxiliary charter was draped in rememberance of Linda Walland Stoltz and will remain draped in rememberance for thirty days. Diane Malys, wife of Walter Malys who served in Iraq, was voted into membership at the meeting.

After the meeting members guests enjoyed a buffet of desserts and hor’d oeurves and participated in a white elephant gift exchange.

 

Due to the winter weather and absence of the snowbird members, the next meeting for the Ladies Auxiliary will be held April 22.

Lady Redskin bowling team remains undefeated against Huron

Port Clinton Redskin bowlers traveled to Riverview Lanes in Huron Wednesday, Dec. 18, and split matches with the Huron Tigers.

The Lady Redskins remain undefeated at 5-0 outlasting the Lady Tigers in a close match 2363-2263. Port Clinton trailed by 10 pins after the first Baker game but rebounded with 196-162-182-183 to earn the win.

Samantha Stroupe led the Lady Redskins with 177-145 for a 322 series. Reilly Wittman rollded 159-144 and Eryn Binder 151-149. Kassidy Mahler added a 163 to the game.

Marblehead VFW Post 7572 remembers Pearl Harbor

Marblehead VFW Post 7572 held their Pearl Harbor Remembrance Service on Saturday, Dec. 7 at their post. Opening remarks were made by Post Commander Bob Peroni. For the ceremony the color guard consisted of Dave Groene, Bob Sobolewski, Frank Zalar and Dwayne Goebel. The Ladies Auxiliary color guard was led by president Deb Garrard and consisted of Darlene Novak, Ruth Mazur, Alice Peroni, Liliah Groene, Mary Goebel and Jean Dewey.

Lakers fall to Toledo Christian

Facing one of the league’s best teams is never easy and the Danbury Lakers found that out last week in their 69-31 loss to Toledo Christian in Toledo Area Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles took control from the outset, outscoring the Lakers 20-6 after the first quarter before taking a 40-11 lead into the half. 

TC had three players score in double figures, Faith Johnson (22), Camille Gist (19) and Darian Westmeyer (18).

Danbury (1-4, 0-2 TAAC) got nine points from Erin Lavelle and seven from Megan Stephens.

The Lakers have two road games this week against Cardinal Stritch and Port Clinton.

Lakers fall but continue to make strides

Trailing by two heading into the fourth quarter, the Danbury Lakers fell short in their matchup with Maumee Valley Country Day, losing 56-45 last week in Toledo Area Athletic Conference action.

After falling behind 20-11 in the first quarter and 31-20 at halftime, Danbury outscored the Hawks 16-7 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 38-36 heading into the final period.

Unfortunately, MVCD outscored the Lakers 18-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

The Ottawa County Republican Women’s Club help area children have a Merry Christmas

The Ottawa County Republican Women’s Club worked in collaboration with the Salvation Army’s Be an Angel toy drive to help bring joy to children around Ottawa County this Christmas. The Republican Women’s participation in the toy drive follows the club’s backpack drive to support the Salvation Army’s Tools for School program.

Diane Belden and Debbie Hymore-Tester, chairpersons of this project, were overwhelmed by the generosity of all who participated. The Ottawa County Republican Women’s Club would like to thank all the family, friends and customers of the Country Gentlemen Hair Salon for the gifts they donated for the Little Angels in Ottawa County.
