Chef Ryan Duffy joins Otterbein North Shore |
|
Otterbein North Shore is proud to announce that Chef Ryan Duffy, of Huron, has joined the retirement community in Lakeside-Marblehead as director of dining services. Duffy comes with a restaurant background and a degree from the Walt Disney World Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts in Orlando, Fla. “I like seeing the residents everyday and preparing home-cooked meals for them. It’s like cooking for family,” said Duffy. He has already made an impression on residents and staff with his homemade soups, scratch desserts and honey balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing.
“Don’t ever take the soup away,” said resident Ed Kolarek. “We love the soup. And, the service — you can’t beat it. This place is better than home.” The dining room is used frequently for banquets and events, but Duffy has many plans for the future, including opening the dining room to the public for breakfast and lunch, and offering special menu dinners for residents and their families and friends. “I’m quite impressed with Ryan. He’s receptive to new ideas, and even asked us to bring him our personal recipes. I’m sure we made the right decision in hiring him,” said Dorothea Hartley, chairwoman of the Resident Dining Services Committee. Established in 1996, Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community, at 9400 North Shore Boulevard in Lakeside-Marblehead, is a Continuum Care Retirement Center.
