| Health Department hands out 2009 Awards of Merit |
Since 1983, the Ottawa County Board of Health has presented Awards of Merit to those licensed operations in Ottawa County that have maintained a high degree of sanitation and safety. This annual award signifies a high level of concern by the operators, not just for meeting the rules and regulations, but in providing an operation that exceeds the minimum requirements. The awards program, unique to the state, has developed into “healthy” competition among the operators and has proven to be beneficial not only to the health department, but to the residents and visitors to Ottawa County. At the Oct. 13 Ottawa County Board of Health Meeting, Bill Van Der Giessen, President of the Ottawa County Board of Health, presented an Award of Merit to the following operations: • Small Camp: Vacationland, 1220 Richey Road, Port Clinton, with Tom Stokes accepting the award • Large Marina: Midway Marina, 1871 N.
