Farmland values rising; workshop explains why

Ottawa and Sandusky County rural landowners enrolled in the Current Agricultural Use Valuation program are invited to attend an educational workshop to learn why farmland property values increased this year. Ottawa County Auditor Jo Ellen Regal and Sandusky County Auditor William Farrell are sponsoring the program at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the multipurpose room at Riverview Healthcare Campus, 8180 w. Ohio 163, Oak Harbor.
Larry Gearhardt, from the Ohio Farm Bureau, will discuss how Ohio has reformatted and updated the income and expense data used for calculating CAUV land values. The new values for CAUV enrolled farmland are established by Ohio’s Department of Taxation based on input from a 15-member agricultural advisory committee. The committee is composed of representatives from numerous Ohio Agricultural groups and several Ohio State University departments.
Because Ottawa and Sandusky counties have just completed a state-ordered update of property values, the updated production values for land enrolled in the CAUV program will be applied to all farmland that is enrolled in that program and will be effective on the 2010 property tax bill.
For information on Ottawa County property values, visit the auditor’s Web site at www.ottawacountyauditor.org or call 419-734-6740.
