| United Way Resource Assistance Fair coming up |
|
The United Way offers a Resource Assistance Fair to help families find help in these tough times. The program is 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Port Clinton Middle School, 110 East 4th St. The program is free and open to the public. With many across Ottawa County struggling in the current economy, the United Way Assistance Fair will offer suggestions and recommendations for individuals looking for help with utility bills, housing, real estate taxes, foreclosure prevention, home repair and weatherization, home purchasing, rental assistance, food, medical assistance, legal aid, employment and more. “So many in our community are at a time of need, without a sense of where to turn or where to go for help,” says Ottawa County United Way Director Chris Galvin. “People should not expect to come to this event and have their bills paid. Instead, we will provide information on where the help is and how to go about securing help, because help is out there and available.” More then 15 local agencies are scheduled to participate, including: United Way 211; AIDS Resource Center Ohio; Area Office on Aging; Ottawa County Board of DD; Champions for Children After-School Program; Columbia Gas of Ohio; Habitat for Humanity; Fair Housing Center; Magruder Hospital; OCTA; Ohio Consumer Council; Ottawa Residential Services, Inc.; Ottawa County Department of Job and Family Services; Salvation Army; and WSOS. Each organization will have a representative available for one-on-one discussions. Several agencies will be accepting applications for assistance programs. While bills will not be paid, participants are encouraged to bring their bills as this information may be necessary to help schedule appointments and receive further assistance. For information, call 419-734-6645.
