| ORSI staffers earn finance certification |

Two members of the Ottawa Residential Services Inc. team recently completed some important ongoing education. On. Feb. 5, Exevutive Director Stephanie Lowe and business manager Brenda MacDonald received certification as a Housing Development Finance Professional from the National Development Council. The HDFP certification is a designation given to individuals who successfully complete an intensive housing development finance training series that is conducted by NDC. The courses provide individuals working in the field of housing development with training in single-family home ownership finance, multi-family housing development finance, housing development finance including problem solving and deal structuring, and the creation and implementation of development programs. The courses range from three to five days in length and end with a written review which must be passed before a certification candidate is allowed to continue in the HDFP program. When a candidate has completed the entire three-week series, a comprehensive examination is given. The New York based National Developmental Council was established in 1972 and is a private non-profit corporation which specializes in economic/housing development training and technical assistance for economic/housing development. Since incorporating in 1976, ORSI — a state-certified housing development organization; — has been planning, acquiring and developing safe, secure, accessible and affordable housing for Ottawa County residents with developmental disabilities. Stephanie has been serving as the executive director with ORSI for a year and a half. During this time, Stephanie has been an active member of the Disability Housing Network and the Ohio Community Development Corporation. Stephanie has been putting her newly acquired skills to action by partnering with state and local agencies to better serve local residents in need. Brenda has served as business manager for ORSI for 27 years and has participated in multiple housing developments. Brenda’s experience and expertise in the field has assisted ORSI in the acquisition and rehabilitation of 15 residential properties, a four-unit apartment complex and a 74-unit condominium complex. Brenda also played a key role in the development of a 10-unit HUD-811 apartment complex focusing on the needs of persons with physical, vision and hearing impairments.
