HURON — The Caryl Crane Children’s Theatre will close its 23rd season with “Raggedy Ann and Andy,” by Patricia Thackray, based on the Bobbs-Merrill book. This delightful children’s classic will perform Sept. 4-5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 6 at 2:30 p.m. in McBride Auditorium on the BGSU Firelands campus. The adventures of Raggedy Ann (Kelsea Freeman, Edison High School) and Raggedy Andy (Brandon Fries, Norwalk Middle School) begin when Marcella’s new birthday surprise, Babette (Cassie Battiste, Woodlands Intermediate) is stolen by the Loonies. Along their journey, they meet The Camel with the Wrinkled Knees (Clare Nejedly; Sandusky High School) who they help rescue from the mean Witch Wigglewort (Abigail Murray, Berlin-Milan Middle School). They also encounter The Greedy (Cody Noon,
BGSU Firelands), boss of the Taffy Mine and some pretty spooky trees (Kyler Cogar, South Amherst Middle School, and Chelsea Baumgartner, Oak Harbor Junior High). When Raggedy Ann and Andy finally make it to Looney Land, they must stop a wedding between Babette and Prince Leonard the Looney Hearted (Cody Noon) as well as defeat the evil Big-Nosed Whizzer (Emily Lipscomb; Firelands Elementary). They win the blessings of Queen Koo-Koo (Paige Graham; McCormick Middle School) and with her help quickly return home where they are greeted by all the toys of the nursery, Mechanico the Robot (Abigail Murray), Bruin Bear (Chelsea Baumgartner), The Twin Baby Dolls (Mackenzie Napholz, McCormick Middle School, and Paige Graham), Grandma (Dee Armstrong, of Huron) and Suzy Pincushion (Emily Lipscomb). Britney Koser, the newly appointed artistic director of the Caryl Crane Children’s Theatre, will direct. Lending their artistic talents to the production staff are David L. Gilmore (BGSU Firelands) as designer and technical director; Davy Davis (Sandusky) as scenic artist and properties designer; Carolyn R. Griswold (Sandusky) as costume designer and coordinator; Andrea Buggele (Berlin Heights) as graphic arts designer; and Julie A. Hamann (BGSU Firelands) as box office manager.
