Oak Harbor girls improve to 2-1 on the season

  • Published in Sports

After opening the season with a loss to Port Clinton last weekend, the Oak Harbor Rockets wanted to respond with a vengeance and they did just that in their 63-30 victory.

In a game that saw Oak Harbor take the lead for good at 2-0 on Makayla Carpenter's steal and layup, the Rockets dominated throughout, controlling the tempo of the game as they slowly built the lead before taking a 34-14 lead into the half.

Andrea Cecil and Maria Boers scored 30 of the Rockets' 34 first-half points with Cecil scoring 18 and Boers finishing with 12 points, nine of which came on three-pointers. In the first half, Cecil was able to break down the Charger defense with her athleticism, scoring on a number of high-percentage shots and feeding her teammates when the defense collapsed on her. Boers, meanwhile, connected on 4-of-9 field goals and was a consistent threat from the perimeter, scoring off a number of nice passes from point guard Makayla Carpenter.
