Electrify Your Strings dream tour is coming to Port Clinton

Recording artist, producer, inventor, music education advocate, Emmy-winning composer and founding member of the internationally acclaimed Trans Siberian Orchestra, Mark Wood, is coming to Port Clinton on May 8 and 9. 

Sponsored by Port Clinton Music Boosters, the Mark Wood Experience/Electrify Your Strings workshop is coming to the Port Clinton City Schools Orchestra Program, to work with the students and engage them in a two day workshop. Wood’s goal is to “ignite their passions and inspire students to open their minds and unlock their potential”. At the end of the workshop Mark Wood, along with the students, will perform at an evening concert on Friday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at the Port Clinton City Schools Performing Arts Center. 

Tickets are available pre-show by contacting Kristina Aukerman at 419-734-2147, ext. 7, or the night of the concert or at the box-office the day of the show. Ticket prices are $10 for students and senior citizens, $20 for adults. Children under 4 are free, and required to sit on an adult lap. Cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are accepted.

“A Grand Night for Singing” at Playmakers Civic Theatre

Playmakers Civic Theatre opens the final show of its 67th Season on Thursday, May 8.  "A Grand Night For Singing" is a tribute to the songwriting genius of Rodgers and Hammerstein, featuring a romantic, musical journey with songs from Carousel, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, The King and I and more.

"A Grand Night" is directed by Brenda Hensley and Robert Bell, who are also members of the cast.  The company features Karen Abbott, Angela Fishburn, Kaitlin Griffing, Sarah Leidheiser, Margaret Helbing, Michelle Haycox, Samantha Meyer, Matthew Parker, Rich Riedmaier and Marshall Parker.

"A Grand Night For Singing" is being performed at Playmakers Civic Theatre, 604 W. Sixth Street, Port Clinton, on May 8, 9, 10 and 16, 17, 18.  Curtain time is 8 p.m, with one 2 p.m. Sunday matinee on May 18.  Tickets are $15per person.  Make reservations by calling 419-734-5044.

Redskins lose to Perkins 2-3

Port Clinton Boys tennis played Perkins Wednesday in an SBC match at home.  The Redskins lost 2-3. This moved PC to 3-10 (2-6).

The scores were as follows:

1st Singles:  Manickam Manickam (P) def. Ryan Norgard (PC) 6-2, 6-0
2nd Singles:   Nader Hamad (P) def. Ellis Adolph (PC) 6-0, 6-0
3rd Singles:  Tristan Auxter (PC) def. Cameron Foss (P)  6-2, 6-1
1st Doubles:  Cody Dominick/Yu Hang Chen (P) def. Noah Cross/Will Mercurio 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (6)
2nd Doubles:  Jeff Griffin/Dean Colston (PC) def. Dhanush Kota/Sean Bower 6-2, 6-0

Ryan stepped up to first Wednesday and put up a great effort against the undefeated Manickam.  Ellis struggled with the more experienced Hamad.  Tristan played excellent Wednesday to defeat Cameron.  Noah and Will nearly won an upseat over the SBC #1 Doubles seed at first doubles.  Jeff and Dean won without much trouble at 2.
