Port Clinton defeats St. Mary CC, 13-8

Port Clinton’s softball team scored eight runs in the first two innings to take control in their 13-8 victory over St. Mary Central Catholic.

The Redskins benefited from a balanced attack that saw a number of hitters get involved in the act. Molly Haberman and Amber Wuersig finished with three hits apiece and Taylor Steyer had two hits. Kate Mueller picked up the win in the circle. Dani Parish had two doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Panthers.

The Redskins scored four runs in each of the first two innings to take an 8-1 lead before SMCC scored three runs in the third to cut the deficit to four.

Port Clinton falls to Norwalk in sectional contest

Sometimes a little bad luck or a mistake can snowball into something much, much bigger.

That's just what happened to Port Clinton on Saturday in their 10-0 loss to Norwalk in the Division II Sectional Semifinal at Norwalk High School. The Truckers took control of the game in the first inning, scoring seven runs and adding another three in the second to account for their 10 runs.

In the first, Norwalk's Joe Hinkley reached on a single before three consecutive bunts, the first two being base hits, plated a run to give the Truckers a 2-0 lead. Avery Albright singled to pushed the lead to 3-0 and Marcus McClain's two-run single gave Norwalk a five-run advantage. Hinkley then connected on a double to make it 7-0, effectively putting the game away.

The Redskins do have some games remaining, the final ones for six of their players: Zak Floro, Ian Kyle, Austin Krupp, Kody Ratliff, Dylan Webb and Joe Zam.

ICS fifth grade class digs through history at Johnson’s Island

 

Dr. David Bush tells the ICS fifth grade the history behind the cemetery at Johnsons Island. 

The fifth graders at Immaculate Conception School in Port Clinton spent Monday being archeologists. Mrs. Jane Drusbacky’s class once again had the experience of participating in the Experiential Learning Program in Historical Archaeology offered by the Center for Historic and Military Archaeology of Heidelberg University.
