Eight area swimmers and three divers advance to state competition

Cheyenne Meek led eight Port Clinton swimmers who advanced to the Division II State Meet after their performances last weekend at districts in Bowling Green.

Meek finished third in the 100 freestyle in 51.68 seconds and was part of the 200 free relay team of McKenzie Stine, Allie Schroeder and Taylor Steyer that finished first. The same quartet of swimmers also finished third in the 400 free relay, good enough to advance.

On the boys side, Zach Barr, Shane Meek, Ty Gallogly and Nick Reineck finished fifth in the 200 free relay (1:32.03).

Emily Zibert placed ninth in diving and has advanced to state competition.

Oak Harbor had two divers advance to state, Bryce Buderer (4th) and Cooper Hicks (6th).

Port Clinton Council takes trip to Wooster

On Saturday, Feb. 15, the Port Clinton City Council took a fact-finding field trip to Wooster to see work that Washington Properties has done, to talk to people of Wooster and to talk with Main Street Wooster to see suggestions they have on what worked for their community. Washington Properties is discussing the renovation of select buildings in downtown Port Clinton and the development of Waterworks Park.

In attendance were Mike Snider (Council at Large), Nicole DeFreitas (Council at Large), Jerry Tarolli (Ward 2), Margaret Phillips (Ward 3), Gabe Below (Ward 4), and Lisa Sarty (Nominated Council). Ron Aukerman of Ward 1 was excused from the trip due to an illness.

Zoeller and Binder lead Port Clinton lady bowlers to championship

Port Clinton’s Lady Redskin Bowlers traveled to Tri County Bowl in Woodville Monday and rolled over the Gibsonburg Ladies, 2446-2196, to win the Northern Ohio Bowling Conference Championship. The Lady ‘Skins set a school record at 19-2 on the season. They were 13-2 in Conference action, breaking a tie with Eastwood by winning 2 of the 3 head to head matches. They also won the NOBC Tournament and OHSAA NW District Sectional Tournament. 

Alysia Zoeller led the Lady ‘Skins with a 191 game and a 340 two game series. Eryn Binder rolled 189-329, and Samantha Stroupe, 162-316. The other team members are Kassidy Mahler, Reilly Wittman, Jozlynn Seamon and Katelyn Chapman. 

The team will compete in the OHSAA NW District Tournament at Westgate Lanes in Lima Saturday at 10 a.m. The top 4 teams advance to the State Finals in Columbus.
