The Salvation Army helps with happiness during the holiday

Salvation Army Volunteer, Donna Drusbacky, helps collect toys during the Toy Distribution at Harbor Lights Landing on Friday.

At the end of October, Ralph Ruta, owner of Harbor Light Landing on SR 53, donated space for the Salvation Army to use for their holiday donations and this year it was certainly put to good use. Wednesday, Dec. 18 was the first day of holiday distribution for the Salvation Army. Over 800 families from the area came to the distribution center and received donated items to make their holiday a happy one.

Second Graders at ICS prepare, wait and give

The second grade class at Immaculate Conception School has been on a journey for the past month.  With their teacher, Mrs. Penny Boyd, the class has been using the season of Advent to be still and to prepare.  Each day the class has filled in their very own advent calendar with the random acts of kindness and good deeds that will help them to open their hearts and to prepare for Jesus.    They have been asked to give of themselves both at home and at school.  

At the end of their month of reflection, the class also took on a service project.  The second graders each brought in baby items to be donated to Heartbeat of Ottawa County to be given to those in need.

The Immaculate Conception Preschool Makes a Joyous Sound

The ICS Preschool Annual Christmas Program filled the Immaculate Conception Gymnasium Wednesday evening with the glorious sound of little voices anxiously awaiting the birthday of Jesus.   Forty-one 3 and 4 year olds performed beautifully to a full house with standing room only.  The preschool classes had spent weeks practicing and rehearsing for their big show.  Under the direction of Miss Mary Heschel, Mrs. Michelle Wojciechowski and Miss Emily Tichy, the sounds of the season couldn’t have been sweeter and the spirit of Christmas couldn’t have been more present.
