Tuskegee Airmen traveling exhibit returns to Liberty Aviation Museum

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Red Tail Squadron and the Rise Above Traveling Exhibit are coming to the Liberty Aviation Museum (LAM) at the Erie-Ottawa International Airport in Port Clinton May 13-17. The Rise Above exhibit tells the story of the famed Tuskegee Airmen to young people all across American in an experiential way. “We are truly pleased to be hosting this fine event for the third year, and for the first time during an active school year,” said LAM President and CEO Edward Patrick.

A Cappella in the Park features Duwende

Port Clinton High School Choir Director Eric Watts has a concert planned for Sunday, May 18, 4:30 p.m., at Lakeview Park on Perry Street in Port Clinton. The event is a Contemporary A Cappella concert featuring North Olmsted High School’s Special Edition and Port Clinton High School’s own Touch of Class. 

A special addition to this year’s concert is the award-winning a cappella group from New York City, Duwende. They are best know for their fiercely orginal, bass and beatbox-driving funk/pop style of music and have headlined major a cappella festivals across the country. Two of Duwende’s most recent albums, “Radio Screaming” and “Collective”, won the 2005 and 2008 Contemporary A cappella recording awards for Best Pop/Rock Album and Best Pop/Rock Original Song.

In 2011, Duwende released “Remember: the Music of Michael Jackson”, gaining them widespread acclaim and leading them to performances for the United Nations, Sundance Film Festival, Bill Clinton Global Initiative and the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Most recently, Duwende was featured as an international artist for the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, sharing the bill with artists Stevie Wonder, Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Hancock and Erykah Badu.

The concert will offer everyone an opportunity to enjoy the sound of these talented high school students in the comfort of your own lawn chair or favorite picnic blanket. Port Clinton Music Boosters will provide picnic style concessions during the concert. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the PCHS cafeteria.

Mother-to-Mother Sale moved to June 14

The Port Clinton Women’s Club spring mother-to-mother sale has been moved from May 3 to June 14.

The sale will be from 9 a.m. to noon at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams Street. Booths are available for anyone interested in selling gently used children’s clothing, gear and accessories. Cost to rent a table is $15. Checks should be made payable to Port Clinton Women’s Club and can be mailed to Mother-to-Mother Sale, c/o Kristina Aukerman, P.O. Box 141, Port Clinton, OH 43452. Include with your check your name, address, phone number and email. Or, email that information to This email address is being protected from spambots. Admission to the sale for those who aren’t renting a table is 50 cents or a canned good to be donated to a local food pantry. For more information, call 419-960-9156.
