Help raise the roof at Nugent’s Canal Yacht Club

Nugent’s Canal Yacht Club, Port Clinton, is holding a "Raise the Roof" fundraiser and membership drive on Saturday, May 17. The event begins at 8 a.m. with a breakfast and a Bloody Mary bar. Throughout the day there will be a bake sale, raffles, kids' games and a silent auction. Chicken dinners will be served from 2 p.m. until sold out and popular local entertainer Steve Brownell starts to perform at 3 p.m. The festivities conclude with the announcement of the silent auction winners and the drawing for the grand prize, a 42" LG TV, at 6:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in joining or just having a good time is invited to help "raise the roof". Cost of the chicken dinners is $8; and admission for everyone 21 and over is $1.

Even Bad Problems can find a Solution

Love conquers all. That is a pretty definitive statement. But for the parent of a son or daughter addicted to opiates, it is an even bigger statement.

Lesha Cuttaia graduated from Port Clinton High School. Her life was going great until 1998. She was working in the automotive world making a great career for herself having moved to Toledo in 1999. Her son, Franklin, called her one day from Athens, Ohio, and said, “Mom, come get me…I need help!” No, he wasn’t in an auto accident; he was using legally prescribed Oxycodone opiate pills. “I never knew anybody on opiates before,” said Lesha. Her son was experiencing one of the bad affects of opiate use…his organs began going dormant. Lesha knew she needed to find help for her son, but where? There was no help available as far as she knew.

Port Clinton defeats St. Mary CC, 13-8

Port Clinton’s softball team scored eight runs in the first two innings to take control in their 13-8 victory over St. Mary Central Catholic.

The Redskins benefited from a balanced attack that saw a number of hitters get involved in the act. Molly Haberman and Amber Wuersig finished with three hits apiece and Taylor Steyer had two hits. Kate Mueller picked up the win in the circle. Dani Parish had two doubles and drove in three runs to lead the Panthers.

The Redskins scored four runs in each of the first two innings to take an 8-1 lead before SMCC scored three runs in the third to cut the deficit to four.
