St. Mary beats Danbury in sectional finals

Facing one of the top teams in Division IV proved to be too difficult of a task for the Danbury Lakers boys as they fell, 84-27, to St. Mary CC in the Division IV Sectional Finals last weekend.

The Panthers (17-6) took control from the beginning, racing out to a 13-0 lead before closing out the first quarter with a 21-7 advantage. SMCC led 51-10 at halftime and cruised from there.

Denarius Harris led all scorers with 15 points, Trenton Zimmerman finished with 11, Melvin Jackson scored 10 and Justin Fraser chipped in with eight.

The Lakers (5-18) were led by Caleb Gerber, who scored seven points. John Rhodes, Seth Vargo and Jon Brooks finished with four points apiece.

Danbury Middle School students perform at Music Festival

On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Ohio Music Education Association’s District 2 Junior High Music Festival was held at Tiffin Middle School. Students from twenty-seven different area schools performed. Danbury Middle School band students selected to perform in the ensemble of one hundred students were eighth graders Sydney Bieberich, flute; Lily Bishoff, trumpet; Sarah Bossetti, euphonium; and Haley Hoffman, percussion. 

Danbury Middle School choir students selected to perform in the vocal ensemble of 114 students were eighth grader sopranos Acacia Peterson and Bridget Sowers and alto Sarah Redett. These middle school musicians rehearsed all day Saturday for a performance in the evening in the gymnasium at Tiffin Middle School for a standing room only audience.

Danbury 5 and 6 grade boys basketball team finishes winning season

The Danbury fifth and sixth grade boys basketball team went 6-0 during the regular season in the Firelands Area Basketball League, which included teams from Huron, Monroeville, New London, Norwalk St. Paul, Perkins, South Central and Western Reserve.  

The Lakers lost the league tournament championship game to South Central after defeating Monroeville and New London on Feb. 22. They are scheduled to participate in the Sandusky St. Mary's tournament March 1-2.
