At their annual meeting on Saturday, May 18, Harbor Island Homeowners Association became the first long-time established homeowner’s association in Ottawa County to be a United Way Caring Giving Community (CGC). They will join other associations who became Caring Giving Communities at the time their development was initiated. The first CGC, Catawba Bay Development, was recognized in April by Ohio United Way at their 100th anniversary celebration as one of 100 community heroes for creating this novel approach to allowing residents to make a commitment to change lives in their communities.

The CIC Run/Walk for Humanity will be held Sunday, June 2 at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinotn. Now 19 years old, this event is still a Catawba-Port Clinton community calendar highlight. “We always have close to 300 runners and walkers who participate in the 5-mile run or 3-mile run/walk. And for kids, we do a ¼ mile fun run. So this event is not only a great event for Ottawa County’s Habitat for Humanity, it is truly a family-based event. We welcome strollers, dogs and all ages to enjoy,” says CIC’s Michael Schenk.

Applications are still being accepted for all events and t-shirts will go to the first 250 registered.

Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the CIC Maintenance Building with parking in the lot across from the CIC Pro Shop on Beach Club Road. The 5-mile run starts promptly at 9 a.m. with the 3-mile run/walk starting at 9:15 a.m.

The annual Bataan Day ceremony will be Friday, May 24, at 9 a.m. in the Bataan Memorial School Gymnasium.

The students and staff of Bataan Memorial Elementary School invite members of the community to their Bataan Day Ceremony. The Ceremony will honor the thirty-two men from Port Clinton who participated in the Battle of Bataan and the Bataan Death March of World War II. The ceremony helps the students remember the history of their school name and realize the sacrifices made by these brave soldiers and others like them who fought and continue to fight for their country and our freedom.
