Kids head to summer camp on Kelleys Island

Did you realize you can go to camp on an island? You can! Each summer, youth from across the state travel to this camp which is located on Kelleys Island. Did you realize youth do NOT need to be 4-H members to attend 4-H camp? It’s true!
Organized camping is more than mosquito bites and soggy tennis shoes. Camp is an important “learning laboratory” where children develop life skills, such as responsibility, decision making, getting along with others, cooperation, leadership and increased self-esteem.

Steve Barton debuts Beachfront Visions at Wyland Gallery

Steve Barton will bring his vibrant new water’s-edge images to Put-in-Bay’s Wyland Gallery, 495 Catawba Ave., Thursday through Sunday, June 14-17. Barton will be on hand daily and by appointment to meet gallery visitors and share insights into his art and inspirations.    
Barton is renowned for lighthearted canvases that capture the laid-back lifestyle embraced by islanders. His paintings depict secluded beaches, tiny waterfront cottages and colorful shoreline vistas.
Barton also applies his artistry to surfboards, adorning them with inviting sun-drenched scenes.

Relay For Life starts Friday

This is the big weekend! The Ottawa County Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. Friday, June 8 , and lasts until noon Saturday, June 9. So much is planned for those 18 exciting hours at the Oak Harbor High School Athletic Field.  
With a Disney-themed — “When You Wish Upon A Cure” — the planning committee created themed laps along with some traditional favorites for the 18 registered teams. All survivors are invited to the Dessert Reception in the Auxiliary gym from 4:30 to 4:45 p.m. T-shirts and goodie bags will be available here also.
