United Way hosts a day of caring

On Friday, September 12, the United Way held its Day of Caring. The day is dedicated to educating the community on ways they can volunteer their time to give back to their community in many ways or the services that are available for families. The event was held at the Sutton Center, a resource center for many of the organizations Day of Caring supports.

A Day of Caring for Kids in Ottawa County

September 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. organizations that work with children in Ottawa County will provide information about how adults can get involved.   There will be interactive fun for children and adults.  Hot Dogs, chips and beverages will be provided along with a celebrity dunk tank and 50/50 raffle.

Lake Erie Adventure Play will have a pop-up event where adults can use their imaginations and see what it would take to be a LEAP volunteer.

Gem Beach Rocks

The United Way fundraiser Gem Beach Rocks celebrated its seventh year of rocking on Saturday, August 16. This year the fundraiser had a 50/50 raffle, t-shirt sales, food vendors, a Lake Erie Adventure Play pop-up playground, four bands and lots of fun. The four bands that performed were the Lounge Lizards, Naked Bacon Band, The Reese Dailey Band (who arrived by boat) and the Homewreckers.

Last year the event raised roughly $25,000 for the United Way of Ottawa County.
