Martha M. Soski Mar. 19, 1922-Apr. 2, 2014

Martha M. Soski, 92, of Bellevue and formerly of Port Clinton passed away Wednesday, April 2, at the Bellevue Care Center, Bellevue, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born March 19, 1922 in Kalida, OH, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kamhaus) Schnipke.  

Friends and family may call from 12-1 p.m., Friday, April 4, at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St, Port Clinton, followed by a Funeral Mass conducted by Father John Missler at 1 p.m.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton.  Memorial contributions in memory of Martha may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton.  Condolences may be shared by visiting


Charles “Chuck” Barkley Plato Aug. 22, 1937-Mar. 27, 2014

Charles “Chuck” Barkley Plato, 76, of Marblehead, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, March 27, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky. Chuck was born on August 22, 1937 in Lorain, and lived along the lakefront most of his life. He attended St. Mary’s High School and joined the Naval Reserve Surface Division 4-105 in Lorain where he proudly served until 1962.

In the 60’s and 70’s, he owned Plato’s Poodle Palace and became active in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was Division 9 Captain and Flotilla 9-11 Commander. After earning his Master 100-ton Captain’s License, Chuck worked on the Miss Majestic Charter Boat as Auxiliary Captain and First Mate. His working career ended as Maintenance Manager for Spitzer Plaza Hotel. After his retirement in 2008, he moved to Marblehead.    

His hobbies included fishing, boating, Lake Erie history, model boat building, and tending to his beloved pets. Chuck was an early riser and took every chance to meet friends for coffee. After moving to Marblehead, his coffee hangout became The Peninsula, where they dubbed him President of the Coffee Club. 

Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Judith A. (Prochazka) Plato; beloved daughter, Kimberly A. Plato Merkle; son-in-law, Christopher A. Merkle; step-grandson, Joshua C. Merkle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul L. Plato; mother, Lucille (Barkley) Plato; sisters, Patricia King and Joan Donnar; and brother, Mort Plato. He will be missed by all his family and friends. 

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 309 W. 7th St., Lorain, OH 44052. Visitation and Celebration of Life will follow from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday at the Black River Landing Depot, 421 Black River Ln., Lorain.  

The family requests donations to be made in lieu of flowers to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Humane Society of Ottawa County, 2424 E. Sand Rd., Port Clinton, OH 43452. Condolences and words of sympathy may be made to the family by Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, is handling arrangements.


Frank W. Harris Nov. 2, 1936-Mar. 30, 2014

Frank W. Harris, 77, of Port Clinton, passed away, Sunday, March 30, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.  Frank was born on November 2, 1936 in Forest City, NC, the son of Richard Andrew and Marjorie Alva (Harris) Harris.

Visitation will be 12-2 p.m., Thursday, April 3, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, followed by a memorial service held at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, with a military graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH  44870, on behalf of the Frank Harris family.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

Deuane D. Davis Jan. 10, 1926-Mar. 26, 2014

Deuane D. Davis, 88, who resided at the Ohio Veterans Home and formerly of Lakeside and Findlay, passed away, Wednesday, March 26, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky.  Deuane was born on January 10, 1926 in Shadyside, OH, the son of Thomas J. and Martha (Hellyer) Davis.  

Friends may call from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, followed by a Memorial service at 12 p.m.  Interment will be in Sackett Cemetery, Marblehead.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Deuane may be given to the Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH  44870.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

Patricia E. Solomon

Patricia E. Solomon (Stein), age 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 26. She was the beloved wife of the late Assad Emil Solomon, devoted mother of Kelly Brotosky (deceased) and Jeffrey Karp (Kimberly), step-mother of Alexander and Emil Solomon, loving grandmother of Joseph and Hailey Brotosky, Alexandria and Arionna Karp, cherished daughter of the late Henry and Mildred Stein, dear sister of Hank Stein (Carol, deceased), dearest aunt and friend of many.

Pat was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #4018, Lake Park, FL where she was Vice President of the Auxiliary for many years. She was also a two-time Snowball Queen of the district. During the summer Pat resided at Catawba Island where she had been a hostess for many restaurants, the last being the Nor Easter Club. 

Visitation and Prayer Services are being held at the Busch Funeral Home, 7501 Ridge Road, Parma, OH on Saturday, March 29. Cremation will take place by Busch Crematory.
