Elinore M. Vallese May 9, 1931-Feb. 10, 2014

Elinore M. Vallese 82, of Port Clinton and Verona, WI, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, with her husband, Tony by her side.

Elinore was born on Mother’s Day, May 9, 1931 to Mary and Michael Migala, Jr.  She was a 1949 graduate of Port Clinton High School.  On Thanksgiving Day, 1954 she married Anthony Vallese, who has been her partner and soul mate for nearly 60 years.

Elinore was talented and vivacious with many hobbies and interests including gardening and canning. However, she was most passionate about her family and friends.

She never missed a high school band performance or an academic ceremony of her daughter, Jane.  When granddaughters Gina and Sonia were born, friends and acquaintances would be shown a stack of photos accompanied by anecdotes.  Elinore also enjoyed coffee or lunches with her gal pals.

Lillian C. Mahoney July 17. 1924-Feb. 1, 2014

Lillian C. Mahoney, 89, of Catawba Island, passed away Saturday, Feb.1, at Riverview Healthcare Campus, Oak Harbor. Lillian was born July 17, 1924, in Manning, SC, the daughter of Luther E. and Ada O. (Johnson) White.   On September 28, 1946, in Columbus, she married Gale Mahoney and he preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 2002. 

Visitation will be 10-11a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., following visitation in the funeral home.  Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte, FL. Suzanne J. Hauser Mar. 11, 1928-Jan. 26, 2014

Suzanne J. Hauser, 85, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Sunday, Jan. 26, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on March 11, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ernest and Frances (Russert) Ganther. She was a graduate of Port Clinton High School, and also graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. On June 28, 1952 she married Arthur James Hauser and he preceded her in death on July 3, 2009. 

Suzie was an elementary school teacher in Battle Creek, MI, Findlay, and the Port Clinton School System in Port Clinton, retiring in 1985. She was a faithful and active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton, where she was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society and bible study group, as well as volunteering her time at the church. Suzie and Jim enjoyed gardening together. She loved to read, ride her bicycle, play cards with her grandchildren, and loved to hold her newborn great-granddaughter. Suzie’s sense of humor and smile will be remembered and treasured by all.


Robert C. Jennings Sept. 10, 1947-Jan. 30, 2014

Robert C. Jennings, 66, of Port Clinton, passed away, Thursday, Jan. 30, at Mercy St. Vincent’s Hospital, Toledo.  Robert was born on Sept. 10, 1947 in Findlay, the son of Oliver Robert and Hazel (Miller) Jennings. 

Per the wishes of the family, cremation has taken place.  There will be no visitation.

A celebration to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Bay Township Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Robert may be given to the family.  Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, has assisted the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at


Mary E. Madison Sept. 8, 1920-Jan. 31, 2014

Mary E. Madison, 93, of Port Clinton passed away, Friday, Jan. 31, at Bethesda Care Center, Fremont, surrounded by her loving family.  Mary was born on Sept. 8, 1920 in Port Clinton, the daughter of Luther and Agnes (Hanlon) Barnum.  

Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 216 Washington St., Port Clinton.  Prayers will be recited 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by  Mass of Christian burial celebrated at10 a.m., in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton.  Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery.  Memorial donations in memory of Mary may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

James J. Telliard Sept. 4, 1923-Jan. 29, 2014

We bid a loving farewell to James J. Telliard Sr., age 90, born in Cleveland, Sept. 4, 1923.  He was born to Martha and Frances Telliard and he was one of six brothers and sisters. Jim and two of his brothers served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific.  His early years after the war were spent in the Cleveland area where he began a business career in the laundry supply business, Merchants Towel Linen Supply where he soon became manager and then owner.  His life was filled with business adventures, which includes a four year management of a laundry facility in Puerto Rico (1950s) and his prize venture, The Oak Harbor Golf Course (in Ohio).  

Jim was also blessed with a happy 46 year marriage with Delorez Telliard (deceased), six children; James Jr., Jeff (wife Liz), Charlie (wife Laurel), Debbra (husband Mike Bassett), Jon (wife Doris) and Marscia Zaccaria, all providing him with a total of 13 devoted grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All have enjoyed the benefits and participation in his many business adventures. 


Dr. Kenneth L. Akins June 9, 1932-Jan. 30, 2014

Dr. Kenneth L. Akins, 81, of Port Clinton, passed away, Thursday, Jan. 30, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Home, Port Clinton, surrounded by his loving family.  Ken was born on June 9, 1932 in Akron, the son of Quay and Bernice (Bixler) Akins. On Sept. 19, 1959 in Louisville, OH, he married Naomi Thompson and she survives.  Ken had his private practice from 1962 to 1996 and was the staff physician for Davis Besse Nuclear Power Station.  He also was the Ottawa County Coroner from 1983 to 2000.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean War.  Ken enjoyed photography, traveling, computer and music.  He was the author of two books related to the history of Ottawa County and of Port Clinton Faith United Methodist Church.  Ken was a member of the Oliver H. Perry Masonic Lodge #341 F. & A.M.  He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Port Clinton.  Ken will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
