Reuben Clay McCain, 80, passed from his earthly life into his eternal life on Friday, June 28, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY, after he struggled with a short battle of terminal cancer.
Reuben was born on Feb. 18, 1933, in Owenton, KY, to the late Benjamin and Rachel (Clifton) McCain. Because Reuben’s father was a Pilgrim Holiness minister, the family relocated several times in his early years of life. Reuben attended and graduated from Bellevue High School in Bellevue, KY. He participated on the baseball and bowling teams.
After graduating from high school he worked briefly in Pogue’s in downtown Cincinnati and the Gibson Greeting Card Company in Cincinnati. In 1953, he was drafted into the United States Army until 1955. He then returned back to Gibson Greeting Card Company where he met his future love of his life and wife, Betty Jo Rees. They were married a year later on Aug. 18, 1956, and lived in Covington, KY. In the same year, he then took a job for Western-Southern Life Insurance Company until he retired after 33 years in Sept. 1989. He remained married to Betty for 52 years until her death on Nov. 29, 2008.
