Gail M. Smith, 66, of Catawba Island, passed away, Friday, Feb. 28, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, surrounded by her loving family.  Gail was born on November 7, 1947 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of John and Audrey (Richmond) Pilkington.

Cremation has taken place under the direct care of Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton.  A Memorial service will be announced at  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in memory of Gail may be given to the American Diabetes Association.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

Liddie Elizabeth Laubner, 96, of Marblehead, died Feb. 25, at her residence.  She was born March 3, 1917 in Radnor Twp. Delaware Co., Ohio the daughter of Willis Augustus and Pearl Elizabeth (VanMeter) Fox.  

Funeral services will be private and burial will be in Chapel Heights Memory Garden, Marion, OH.  Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury.  Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside—Marblehead, is handling the arrangements.  On line condolences may be shared with the family


Lois E. Gates March 13, 1926-Feb. 24, 2014

Lois E. Gates, 87, of Port Clinton, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Oak Harbor on March 13, 1926, the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Lieske) Waggoner. 

Lois graduated from Flower Hospital Nursing School in 1946 and Baldwin Wallace College in 1977. She worked as an RN, for H. B. Magruder Hospital, Parma Community Hospital, Lakewood Hospital and Southwest General Hospital, for 46 years until retiring in 1992. Lois was very artistic. She loved sewing, knitting and gardening in her yard. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

Survivors include: daughters Sandra L. Householder & Diane E. (Daniel E.) Margulies; grandchildren T. Shane Householder, Taryn L. Householder, Magda G. Margulies and Samantha E. Margulies; great-grandchildren Kayleigh M., Ashley B. and Taylor G. Householder; and brother Don C. Waggoner. Lois was preceded in death by her parentsand her daughter, Sharon Lynn Gates.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, followed by a Service of Remembrance at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Eva Jean Petersen Feb. 24, 1940-Feb. 22, 2014

Eva Jean Petersen, 92, of Catawba Island passed peacefully from this life at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo, on Saturday, Feb. 22. She was born in Danbury Township, the daughter of the late Eugene and Eva Henrietta (Barnholt) Vollmer, and graduated from Danbury High School. On Feb. 24, 1940, she married Richard N. Petersen, who preceded her in death in 1980.

Catawba's Orchardside Motel was her creation and career. She began her business in 1956 and operated it every summer until closing in 2009.

In 1951, she started the Children's Conservation League (CCL Mother's Club) and brought girl scouting to Catawba. She was a member of the Catawba Island Fireman's Auxiliary and St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Clinton.


Lisa M. Cherry-Dewey Feb. 27, 1969–Feb. 23, 2014

Lisa M. Cherry-Dewey, 44, of Huron, passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23, at Parkvue Healthcare Center, following a heroic battle with a rare form of cancer.

She was born Feb. 27, 1969, in Sandusky, to Lonnie and Eleanor (Perkins) Cherry. Lisa was a graduate of Monroeville High School and a graduate of Heidelberg University, majoring in Music. She was currently attending the University of Toledo, working on a Masters degree in Higher Education. She also graduated Leadership Ottawa County in 2013.

Alois David Capko, 81, of Port Clinton, passed away, Wednesday, Feb. 12, at H. B. Magruder Hospital.  David was born on September 16, 1932 in Lakeside, the son of Joseph and Clara (Boytim) Capko.  

A Memorial service will be conducted at a later date.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead.  Memorial donations in memory of David may be given to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, Clyde, H.B.
