Martha Edna Tubbs Dec. 22, 1922-June 6, 2014

Martha E. Tubbs, 91, of Lakeside, passed away, Friday, June 6, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, surrounded by her loving family.  Martha was born on December 22, 1922, in Russellville, AL, the daughter of Benjamin Overton and Addie P. (Stephens) Hill.  She was married to James S. T. Tubbs who preceded her in death on September 8, 2005.  Martha was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church.  She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

Survivors include: Daughter: Lynn (Warren) Comiskey; Sons: J. Stephen (Kathy) Tubbs, William H. Tubbs and Robert N. (Janet) Tubbs; 7 Grandchildren; 12 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.   Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother: Henry Hill.

Private services will be held by the family.  Memorial donations in memory of Martha may be given to Lakeside United Methodist Church or Stein Hospice.  Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, has assisted the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

Laymans celebrate 50 years of marriage

On Saturday, June 14, Gary and Karen Layman will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at their home, 475 Burdine Drive, Oak Harbor, from 3-6 p.m. They invite anyone who knows them to join them for an afternoon of reminiscing.

Gary and Karen’s children are Eric and Keri (Bates) Layman, with grandchildren Carolanne and Erica, and James and Christine (Layman) Blacka, with grandchildren Conner, Shane and Bryan.

Patricia M. Benson Sept. 6, 1928-June 3, 2014

Patricia M. Benson, 85, of Marblehead, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 3, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, surrounded by her loving family.  Patricia was born on September 6, 1928 in South Zanesville, OH, the daughter of Edgar Wayne and Carolyn (Wolfe) Runyan.

Lawrence “Larry” Sizer Feb. 15, 1934-Apr. 19, 2014


Lawrence L. "Larry" Sizer, 80, of Lakeside-Marblehead, and formerly of Berea, Ohio, died April 19, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born February 15, 1934, in Cleveland, the son of the late Louis & Blanche (Rada) Sizer. He married Marilyn Fisher on December 26, 1969, and she survives. Mr. Sizer was a manager for Distillation Water Company in Cleveland. He was a United States Navy Veteran and a member of American Legion Post 91, Berea.

Surviving are his wife: Marilyn; sons: Louis (Debby) Sizer of Linden, VA, Eric (Lisa) Budd of Akron, Kenneth (Lee) Budd of Lakeland, FL; daughters: Jennifer (Michael) Kindinger of Logan, OH, Sharon (James) Budd Carpenter of Jacksonville, FL; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Dick Sizer, William Sizer, Edward Sizer, John Sizer and sisters: Betty Segedi and Marge Hathaway.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Peninsula Chapel of Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 7755 East Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead. Lowell S. Petersen July 22, 1927-May 30, 2014

Lowell Stensen Petersen, 86, of Port Clinton, passed away, Friday, May 30, at  Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton.  He was born on July 22, 1927 in Port Clinton, the son of Stensen and Frances (Vollmer) Petersen.  Following graduation from Port Clinton High School, Lowell enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  After being honorably discharged he attended the Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and his Juris Doctorate.  While at the Ohio State University he met Elaine Dybvig whom he married September 11, 1948.  After passing the Ohio Bar exam he opened his law practice in Port Clinton and served two terms as city solicitor and then 28 years as the Ottawa County Prosecutor.  

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, where he had taught Sunday school, had served as President of the church council, and was a Boy Scout leader.  He loved sailing his boat on Lake Erie and entered many races.  He was a member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club, the Elks, the Ottawa County Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association.  He enjoyed reading and studying fine arts with his wife Elaine.  

Survivors include: Daughter: Carol (Mark) Mitchell of Sterling Heights, MI; Son: John S. Petersen of Champaign, IL; Grandson: Jack Mitchell of Sterling Heights, MI; Granddaughter: Erica (Brad) Bible of St. Clair Shores, MI; Great-Granddaughter: Tessa Bible.  Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister: Barbara Bailey.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 2-3 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m.  Private interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.  Memorial donations in memory of Lowell may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or Stein Hospice.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at
