Lowell S. Petersen July 22, 1927-May 30, 2014

Lowell Stensen Petersen, 86, of Port Clinton, passed away, Friday, May 30, at  Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton.  He was born on July 22, 1927 in Port Clinton, the son of Stensen and Frances (Vollmer) Petersen.  Following graduation from Port Clinton High School, Lowell enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  After being honorably discharged he attended the Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree and his Juris Doctorate.  While at the Ohio State University he met Elaine Dybvig whom he married September 11, 1948.  After passing the Ohio Bar exam he opened his law practice in Port Clinton and served two terms as city solicitor and then 28 years as the Ottawa County Prosecutor.  

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, where he had taught Sunday school, had served as President of the church council, and was a Boy Scout leader.  He loved sailing his boat on Lake Erie and entered many races.  He was a member of the Port Clinton Yacht Club, the Elks, the Ottawa County Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association.  He enjoyed reading and studying fine arts with his wife Elaine.  

Survivors include: Daughter: Carol (Mark) Mitchell of Sterling Heights, MI; Son: John S. Petersen of Champaign, IL; Grandson: Jack Mitchell of Sterling Heights, MI; Granddaughter: Erica (Brad) Bible of St. Clair Shores, MI; Great-Granddaughter: Tessa Bible.  Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister: Barbara Bailey.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 2-3 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, in the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m.  Private interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.  Memorial donations in memory of Lowell may be given to St. John Lutheran Church or Stein Hospice.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at

Aline M. Alge April 6, 1924-May 19, 2014

Aline M. Alge, 90, of Catawba Island, died Monday, May 19, at Providence Care Center in Sandusky. She was born on April 6, 1924 in Robinson, Illinois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton, with Father John C. Missler officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be sent to Providence Care Center, Sandusky; Stein Hospice, Sandusky; or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton.

Ila Jean Kendall July 14, 1926-May 19, 2014

Ila Jean Kendall, 87, of Port Clinton, died Monday, May 19, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center in Port Clinton. She was born on July 14, 1926 in Oak Harbor, the daughter of the late Clifford and Leona (Scott) Franck. She married George V. Kendall on July 24, 1944 and he preceded her in death on February 12, 1984.

During World War II, Ila Jean worked at Standard Products in Port Clinton to help aid the war effort. Later she worked at the Catawba Island Club on Catawba Island and then at Phil’s Inn in Port Clinton. She was of the Lutheran faith having attended St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton; a member of the Port Clinton Moose Club Ladies Auxiliary; Past member of the Port Clinton American Legion Auxiliary; and member of the Port Clinton VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed playing cards, bunko, and dominos as well as going on trips with the Moose Club to the casinos. Most importantly, she was a proud housewife and mother raising her four children.

She loved sharing her time with family and friends and she treasured the memories of her travels with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons: Bernard “Ben” (Sharon) Kendall, Huron; Timothy Kendall, Coshocton; and Terrence Kendall, Pass Christian, Mississippi; daughter: Tana Hogan, Port Clinton; grandchildren: Matthew Kendall, Scott Kendall, Jeffrey Kendall, Allison Mates, Kimberly Melton, Kellie Jenkins, Lisa Moon, Heather Shiets, Kristin Grove; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Scott and Paul Franck; and sisters: Elizabeth “Betty” Franck and Evelyn “Mickey” Marquez. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister: Phyllis King.

Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. with Bishop Robert Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Edgewood Manor Nursing Center Activity Fund or to Stein Hospice.

Velliquette-Lochotki Wedding

Joshua and Jolene (Velliquette) Lochotki were married September 21, 2013, at Schedel Gardens in Elmore, OH. Jolene’s best friends Erika Browne and Annie Olson were her maids of honor. Jolene’s sister Stacey Nickloy and Joshua’s sister Jessica Lochotzki were bridesmaids. Samantha Nickloy, niece of Jolene, was junior bridesmaid. Mailey Parker-Mowel, cousin of Joshua, was flower girl. 

Joshua was attended by Jolene’s brother-in-law Steve Nickloy and Joshua’s cousin Billy Mowel. His brother Jeremiah was his best man. Jolene’s nephew Sy Nickloy was ring bearer. 

Pastor Bruce Batchelor-Glader officiated at the wedding. The couple will reside in Port Clinton.
