Celebrating Thanksgiving |
|
By Michael Cejer, sixth grade student The kindergarten students of Pat Seibert at Immaculate Conception School had a Thanksgiving Feast where teachers and the sixth grade students celebrated the meaning of Thanksgiving. The students began by welcoming the sixth-graders with the beating of a tune on their homemade drums and singing songs, reciting poems and using sign language to sing one of the special songs. Then it was off to the feast. Students and teachers alike feasted on cheese, crackers, vegetables, fruits, meats and homemade cornbread. As everyone sat down to eat, they were served delicious apple cider and fun turkey-shaped straws. After finishing the feast, students ran outside to play. Kindergarten students dressed for the occasion in Indian headdress, paper bag vests decorated with Indian symbols, and wore wampum beads.
