The popular Port Clinton Fullbackers Club will be cooking up a storm in a couple of weeks, and what they serve at the 7th annual Wild Game Feed will be exotic, to say the least. And this year, the football gala will move to the Ottawa County Fairgrounds in Oak Harbor, a slightly smaller venue than the Zink Game Calls warehouse in Port Clinton, so revelers better get their tickets right away.
The $40 ducats for the Saturday, March 23 party are available at Rich’s Carry Out (419-732-7716) in Port Clinton, and it would be best to call ahead. The doors will open at 4 p.m. for the Wild Game Feed and a wild and crazy wild game dinner is at 5:30 p.m. That will be followed by a live auction, rollicking raffles, door prizes and a special drawing for an arsenal of firearms.
Fred Zink, the owner of Zink Game Calls, is noted for his hunting gear and television shows. He’s also an expert when it comes to preparing ducks, geese, venison and other wild game. Expect the offbeat, from marsh rabbit (it’s actually muskrat) to alligator tail and well beyond.
“It’s one of the biggest parties in town,” said Mike Snider of Lake Erie Vacation Rentals and a candidate for mayor in Port Clinton. “Last year, the Port Clinton Fullbackers Club raised more than $60,000, so bring extra cash for raffle tickets. We always have a great lineup of raffle items.”
In the past, the live auction has featured exotic fishing trips, weekend adventures, fishing tackle and wood carvings.
You won’t have to wait to be tempted to try the wild game. There will be plenty of appetizers for early arriving sportsmen, ranging from venison dips to chicken wings.
The Wild Game Feed supports all things Redskins football, from community flag football and the pee wee program through the high school varsity program. The club helped develop a fully-equipped weight room at Bassett’s Field at True Lay Stadium as well as aluminum bleacher seats for the visitors stands.
Major sponsors of the Wild Game Feed include Zink Calls, Mossy Oak, Browning, Beretta, Avian, Miller Lite and Rich’s Carry Out.
