GLCAP TRIPS Public Transportation has begun its Fremont Shuttle Service this week, driving a fixed route within the City of Fremont that runs in an hourly loop from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekdays.
Each hour, TRIPS Fremont Shuttle will stop at nine locations including (minute of arrival indicated):
- Department of Job and Family Services (:00)
- Liberty Center (:07)
- Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (:11)
- Fort Stephenson (:15)
- ProMedica Memorial Hospital (:23)
- Community Health Services (:28)
- West-side Kroger (:35)
- Sandusky County YMCA (:40)
- Wal-Mart (:45)
The cost is $1 per one-way ride on the loop. Passengers are asked to be at their stop at least 5 minutes prior to the scheduled time of arrival.
TRIPS Fremont Shuttle will bring a much desired service to the community, said Rural Transit Director Jacquie Wells.
“We’ve heard the demand for a regular transportation route in Fremont, and we want to meet that demand with TRIPS,” Wells said.
The locations of stops for TRIPS Fremont Shuttle were selected based on input from a community survey, as well as the logistics of running a one-hour loop that allowed time for a driver to make all stops, factoring in the boarding and departing of passengers. The shuttle is defined as a “deviated-fixed route” service. This means that while the shuttle follows the route and makes all stops as scheduled, the shuttle is permitted to deviate from the route no more than once per hour and as time allows. Riders may be picked up or dropped off no more than 1/4 mile from stops on the route. These rides must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance by calling TRIPS at 419-332-8091.
The shuttle will run as a pilot program through Dec. 31.
“So long as TRIPS Fremont Shuttle is in-demand and funding is available, we will continue to run this service for our community,” Wells said.
