PORT CLINTON – Hailey Clark walked out of the Monkey Maze fun house at the 44th Annual David W Leonard Fraternal Order of Eagles #2295 Walleye Festival on May 24 full of giggles. She said it took a long time for her family to make it through the maze.

“It was fun because we all got our face smashed in there,” she said.

Although the maze was fun, Clark liked the swings the best.

“I like the swings because they’re not too ticklely,” she said.

The Walleye Festival was held on May 23-26 at Waterworks Park in Port Clinton. The event featured rides, games, live music and over 100 food and merchandise vendors selling everything from hats to hamburgers. Corndogs, bourbon chicken and Dippin’Dots ice cream were festival favorites.

When Sasha Reebel arrived with Keely Koerbel, 13, and Tava Tobias, 9, they purchased paper fans and then hit the bourbon chicken stand.

“I’ve had it before. It was good,” Koerbel said. “We come to the festival every year almost. It’s fun.”

Reebel said they would probably visit the merchandise vendors after lunch.

“Keely likes to spend money,” she said.

Mahoganee Brown, 11, and Aramoni Brown, 10, took their first ride on the Super Shot, a carnival ride that slowly takes riders high in the sky and then drops them suddenly.

“It was scary,” Mahoganee said. “My heart dropped. I’m shaking.”

Aramoni also said it was a scary ride.

“It was lifting me out of my seat,” she said.

Both girls said it was their favorite ride at the Walleye Festival.

“But I’m never doing it again,” Mahoganee said.
