Students interact with local companies for a hands-on chance to understand the skill sets necessary to excel in a broad cross section of careers.
To celebrate National Manufacturing Day, the Ottawa County Business Advisory Council is holding its 6th annual Ottawa County Career Showcase on Friday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Port Clinton.
The Business Advisory Council is in its 6th year and is a collaborative effort between the private sector and local K-12 students, allowing the boys and girls to set the stage for engaging with local companies to learn about career opportunities that exist in the same communities where they live, play, and learn.
The companies are able to engage students in different hands-on activities that demonstrate skill sets necessary to excel in a broad cross section of careers. The careers include culinary and hospitality, auto mechanics, electrical, engineering, emerging healthcare, machine operation, maintenance and welding.
Businesses participating in the event are U.S. Gypsum, Magruder Hospital, Davis Besse, Ohler & Holzhauer, Northern Manufacturing and Graymont Dolime. Parents and the general public are invited to observe how much of an impact this event has on the students.
