The Firelands Symphony Orchestra (FSO), under the direction of Carl Topilow, present their annual holiday pops concert on Sunday, Dec.10 at 4 p.m. at Sawmill Creek Convention Center. This year’s family holiday concert is titled “A Peppermint Twist Christmas” and features favorite holiday classics, as well as non-traditional holiday songs for a sweet twist.

The concert will not only feature the full orchestra, but also the Firelands Symphony Orchestra Chorale (under the direction of Michael Shirtz), and guest vocalist Connor Bogart O’Brien.

General admission tickets are available at FirelandsSymphony.com/Tickets or by calling the FSO office at 419-621-4800 (Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Adult tickets are $35. Student tickets for youth and college students are $5.

Carl Topilow, music director and conductor, will lead the full orchestra in a concert of both classic and non-traditional holiday music. Selections include Carol of the Bells, Sleigh Ride and Clarinet Candy. Highlighting the concert are the back-to-back versions of selections from Tchaikovsky’s traditional Nutcracker Suite, followed by Duke Ellington’s swing version of the Nutcracker Suite.

The concert will also feature the Firelands Symphony Chorale, under the direction of Michael Shirtz. The chorale will lift their voices to perform many of the holiday classics both acapella and along with the full and robust tones of the orchestra. They will perform treasured holiday classics such as O Come Emmanuel and Hark the Herald Angels Sing, as well as other pieces like African Noel and Caroling Caroling.

Connor Bogart O’Brien will be joining as guest vocalist.

In addition to the chorale and orchestra will be guest vocalist Connor Bogart O’Brien. Having performed as a soloist on stage with many national orchestras, as well as on television, O’Brien will bring dulcet jazz tones as he performs pieces such as Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, The Christmas Song, and more.

This concert is made possible with sponsorship from: Randolph J. and Estelle M. Dorn Foundation, Sam S. & Rose Stein Foundation, Sidney Frohman Foundation, Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales, Erie County Community Foundation, Stefano Dental, Tusing Builders & Roofing Services, Rhonda Watt, and Ohio Arts Council.
