PORT CLINTON – Members of the American Legion Post 113 of Port Clinton met at the Riverview Cemetery in Port Clinton on Oct. 4 to clean headstones of 32 former military service members. The markers are part of a monument designed in a circle to recognize the seven branches of the United States Armed Forces and Prisoners of War. The headstones indicate individuals who served in combat from the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II. Flags of the seven military branches of service are displayed along with their respective crest.
The development of the military memorial was financially supported by three organizations: American Legion Post 113, Post 2480 of the Veterans of Foreign War and Chapter 29 of the Disabled American Veterans. The main stone monument in the center of the circle has the following inscription: “Dedicated to those who gave their lives in the cause of freedom.”
American Legion Post 113 wishes to recognize and thank the local Walmart for donating the needed scrubbing brushes and spray bottles for the project.
