I have not been able to find the answer…so perhaps Wylie can find out.

Why is it called Gem Beach? Were ‘gems’ found on the beach? Was it a ‘gem’ of a beach? Shortened name for something? Any ideas?

My wonderful Lake Erie friends and myself have done some major fisssshhhhinnnngggg around to find this answer and I have found out that it seems Terrace Beach and Gem Beach were simply began at the same time in the early 1920s, named at random, and it stuck. See the history I’ve unearthed at:
