Baseball season has begun

The Margaretta Polar Bears won over the Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic Crimson Streaks 5-0 on March 25. For Margaretta, senior Skylar Colvin set a new single-game record of 19 strikeouts. The previous record of 18 strikeouts was set in 1988 by Andrea Carter. Margaretta continued their winning ways on March 27 as they defeated the Wapakoneta Redskins 5-2. The Edgewood Cougars were close, but not close enough, as they lost to Margaretta 6-5 on March 28. For Margaretta, it was Cassie Lane who did not allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Margaretta was shut out 15-0 by the Lakota West Firebirds on March 29 in a non-conference game. Margaretta was shut out again on March 29 by the Milford Eagles 17-0. Margaretta is now 3-2 and will play the Perkins Pirates on Tuesday, April 2 at 4:45 p.m. The Polar Bears travel to take on the Crestview Cougars for two games on Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

On March 25, the Port Clinton Redskins shut out the St. Mary Central Catholic Panthers 14-0. Junior Ashton Sanchez threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 12 batters. On Wednesday, April 3, the Redskins play the Bowsher Blueracers (0-0) at 4:45 p.m. at home. The Danbury Lakers (0-1) will be here on Thursday, April 4 at 4:45 p.m., and play a home game against the Woodmore Wildcats (2-1) on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m.

The Clyde Fliers were on the road and defeated the Willard Flashes 19-5 on March 25. Leading the scoring for Clyde was Kennedi Long with four hits and Ella Howey with five runs. Clyde had 10 runs in the first inning. The Fostoria Redmen played on March 26 in a non-conference game, and they lost to the Fliers 15-2. The Edison Chargers (0-2) were defeated by the Fliers on March 28, 9-0 in a home, non-conference game. The Fliers’ record is now 3-0. Coming up on Wednesday, April 3 is a road trip conference game against the Perkins Pirates (1-1) at 4:45 p.m. On Friday, April 5, it’s a home conference game against the Bellevue Redmen (2-1) at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, April 6 is a non-conference road game against the Lake Flyers (2-2) at 11 a.m.

The Danbury Lakers blanked the Northwood Rangers 10-0 on March 25. Danbury sophomore Charley Lenthe hit a home run plus two hits from Michaela Harris, and Miranda Evans would boost the Laker’s scoring. Ella Fish had four strikeouts. The Lakers were on the road in a conference game, and they defeated the Calvert Senecas (0-1) 8-0 on March 27. Ellie Fish struck out 11 in a three-hit shutout, going two for four with two runs batted in. On March 28, the Lakers were defeated by the Lake Flyers (2-2) 12-2 in a non-conference matchup. The Lakers will be on the road Wednesday, April 3 in another conference game against the Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains (1-0) with a 5 p.m. start time. The Lakers will travel to Port Clinton to take on the Redskins (2-0) Thursday, April 4 at 4:45 p.m. The Lakers have another road game on Friday, April 5, against the Lakota Raiders (0-1) starting at 5 p.m.

The Vermilion Sailors fell to the Columbian Tornadoes 6-3. The Sailors outhit Columbian 9-6, but unfortunately, the Sailors were hampered by six errors. On March 27 the Avon Eagles won their second game of the season as they defeated the Vermilion Sailors 10-0 in a non-conference game.

The Sailors (0-1) are back in action on Wednesday when they go up against the St. Joseph Academy Jaguars (1-1). The game time is at 5 p.m. The Sailors will travel to Norwalk to take on the Norwalk Truckers (0-3) at 11 a.m.
