Dear Stakeholders of B-C-S:
Let’s take a moment to celebrate the success we had on the 2020-2021 State Report Card just issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
While no grades were issued due to Covid-19, data (including achievement tests taken by students in Spring 2021) was reported that show academically The Performance Index, which measures the test results of every student, not just those who score proficient or higher.
There are seven levels on the index and districts receive points for every student who takes a test. The higher the achievement level, the more points awarded in the district’s index. This rewards schools and districts for improving the performance of all students, regardless of achievement level.
The Benton-Carroll-Salem Local School District Performance Index was 81.8%, which ranks us as No. 34 out of 607 school districts in Ohio.
That put the Benton-Carroll-Salem Local School District at the top 5% in Ohio.
Moreover, among the top 5% of school districts in Ohio, B-C-S is the 3rd lowest taxed, providing a great value to the citizens of B-C-S!
Prepared for Success looks at how well the school district prepares students for future opportunities and awards points for things like the number of students who earn an ACT remediation free score, students who earn industry-recognized credentials, the number of students who score three or higher on an AP exam, and several other areas.
B-C-S earned a score of 57.3%, which led Ottawa County and was up from 47% last year and 42% in 2019.
Other areas where B-C-S leads in Ottawa County: Our performance for gifted students at 98.2%; 4-year graduation rate at 95.7%; Improving reading for at-risk readers in grades K-3 at 38.8%. 100% of students met The Third Grade guarantee.
These are just the highlights. You can look at the full Benton-Carroll-Salem report card here: reportcard.education.ohio.gov/district/048926
