Big walleye a bonus, perch a bit slow

With the Fall Brawl luring anglers through Sunday, Nov. 27, big walleye are keeping anglers happy.

Some big Lake Erie walleye are being caught north of Huron this week, and Dead-Eye Lures have been finding plenty of success for trollers. The best success has been trolling lures 75 to 100 feet behind the boat with no weights for assistance, and 75 to 100 feet back with 2-ounce weights.

The top trolling speed has been 1.8 to 1.9 miles per hour. A great grade of fish are being caught right now, with a 7- to 9-pound average with an occasional 10-pounder in there as well.

The Lake Erie yellow perch bite seemed to slow this week. I have noticed quite a few perch catches with one good-sized walleye mixed in. Most perch are being still caught around Kelleys and Mouse Island. The size of the perch are on average 8 to 9 inches and we’re not seeing the jumbo perch of recent weeks.
