Oudoor minded student recruits sought for Camp Canopy at FFA Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake in Carroll County on June 12-17.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is looking for future foresters and wildlife biologists. Registration is now open for the popular Camp Canopy.

The camp runs from Sunday to Friday, June 12-17. Students who have completed the eighth grade through high school seniors graduating in 2022 are invited to attend Camp Canopy, which was previously known as the Ohio Forestry and Wildlife Conservation Camp. The camp will be held at FFA Camp Muskingum on Leesville Lake in Carroll County.

“We have a great lineup of classes and activities for students this year,” said forestry manager and camp co-director Jeremy Scherf. “This camp provides an opportunity for students to get out into Ohio’s beautiful forests and learn about natural resources from professionals while build lasting leadership and teambuilding skills.”

Camp Canopy 2022 will feature Ohio raptor identification and demonstrations of how ODNR Division of Wildlife’s K-9 Program uses dogs to help with law enforcement. There will also be forest forensics and an arborist class, included with the traditional lessons in tree identification, wildlife management, silviculture, and forest products. Adventure-themed recreational activities like rifle and archery shooting, hiking and a kayak excursion will round out a fun week of learning.

Camp Canopy is operated by the Ohio Forestry Association Foundation, a non-profit corporation dedicated to the conservation of Ohio’s forests and forest industry. Instructors are professionals from ODNR, OSU Extension, and forest industry in the state.
