Captain Peg VanVleet of Blue Sky Charters, the Lake Erie Charter Association’s 2015 Captain of the Year, was appointed the LECBA Vice President of Environment Issues.
As a Lake Erie advocate, VanVleet will be involved with seminars, workshops and other events where scientists, educators, journalists, and elected officials meet to learn more about Lake Erie issues, such as alga blooms, fishing limits and on-going research.
This position requires a great understanding of the lake and the ability to clearly express concerns to those whose job it is to formulate protective measures.
VanVleet is a third generation Lake Erie angler and has been fishing Lake Erie since the age of five. With Blue Sky Charters, she has been catching walleye and perch for the last 25 years. She enjoys telling people that Lake Erie water runs through her veins.
VanVleet loves children, teaching them by creating a safe space to learn about fishing and the outdoors. Country Living Magazine has crowned her “Lady of the Lake.”
She will try to fill the big shoes of Captain Dave Spangler, whose life-long love of the lake fueled his passion to become one of Lake Erie’s biggest advocates and inducted into the prestigious Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame.
