Carolyn (Humphrey) Corfman Houghton, age 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. She was born on April 29, 1940, to Lucile and Gerald Humphrey in Oak Harbor, Ohio. Carolyn lived a life defined by her steadfast faith, and a gentle, creative spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

Carolyn and her husband, the late Douglas Ray Houghton, co-owned Big Daddy’s Fine Used Cars in Rutland, Vermont, a business known for its friendly atmosphere and the integrity they brought to every customer relationship.

A woman of deep faith, she was a dedicated member of Fellowship Bible Church, where she found community, comfort, and lifelong friendships. Her faith guided her daily life and shaped the way she cared for others.

Carolyn’s creativity was one of her greatest gifts. She loved crocheting, creating blankets and hats for hospital newborns. She also found joy in painting, photography and music, playing the piano and organ and singing in the church choir. During the Christmas season, she especially enjoyed being a part of the bell choir.

Carolyn is survived by her children from her first marriage, Jeff (wife Belinda), Pat, and Bryan (wife Kathy); granddaughter Carmen (husband Austin and sons Henry and Graham); her stepson, Douglas Wade Houghton; stepdaughter Leah’s three sons Andrew, Zachary and Gabriel; her brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families; along with many cherished cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rita; her stepdaughter, Leah; and her beloved husband, Douglas Ray Houghton.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Friday, September 18th at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Township Union Cemetery located at 11565 OH-105, Oak Harbor, OH 43449. A luncheon will immediately follow, where family and friends can gather to honor her memory and share the stories that keep her spirit close.
