Carolyn S. (Tight) Spieldenner, age 81, of Port Clinton, passed away on the 13th of December, 2021. She was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Fremont, the daughter of Edward F. and Henrietta B. (Ringholz) Tight. She was raised in Fremont and graduated from Fremont St. Joseph High School in 1958. On June 16, 1962, she married John Spieldenner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They were married for 59 years.
Carolyn was employed at Tony’s Bakery in Fremont from 1956 to 1962. From 1962-1983 she was a homemaker and devoted stay-at-home mom to her four children. In 1983 she went back to work as a billing clerk at the office of Charles E. Hull, M.D. in Fremont, where she worked until retiring in 2000.
Carolyn served two terms on the St. Joseph Central Catholic (SJCC) High School Board in Fremont, including a stint as president of the board. She was a founding member of the SJCC Alumni Association and served as its president for about 10 years, spending time on the board of the SJCC Catholic Education Development Fund (CEDF) as well. Carolyn enjoyed being an active participant in the St. Francis Auxiliary and the St. Joseph’s Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament for many years. In Port Clinton she volunteered in the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary, including working in the hospital gift shop and managing the gift shop volunteer schedule. In addition, she was active in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Port Clinton) Ave Maria Study Club. At Immaculate Conception Catholic School she volunteered by working at Bingo games and did the Bingo volunteer schedule. Throughout her life Carolyn enjoyed the wonderful friendship of a large group of schoolmates and others whom she loved and appreciated greatly.
Carolyn is survived by her husband John and their children, Lisa (Ted) Johnson of Port Clinton, Steve (Kim) Spieldenner of Toledo, Paul (Carolyn) Spieldenner of Normandy Park, Wash., and Peter (Lisa) Spieldenner of Port Clinton; sisters Judy (Kenneth) Weickert and Sharon (Lee) Bowden, and her sister-in-law Mary Jane (Thomas) Tight, as well as her 3 step-grandchildren: Bo (Rachel) Henry, David (Chelsea) Johnson, Bryan (Tyler Marie) Johnson, and their 8 step great grandchildren, and by her 11 grandchildren: Molly, Emma, Mark, Joseph, Aaron, Marie, Karen “KJ”, Ray, Olivia, Spencer and Lily Spieldenner; She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Thomas Tight, and her brother-in-law Kenneth Weickert.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who so lovingly cared for Carolyn over the past few years.
Family and friends were invited to call at the Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton, OH 43452 on Sunday, Dec. 19. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, Dec. 20 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison St, Port Clinton, OH 43452. Carolyn was laid to rest at a private service in Saint Joseph Cemetery in Fremont.
