Carrie F. Sowards, 92, residing in Lakeside Marblehead, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Carrie was born on March 13, 1932 in Greenup, Kentucky.

Carrie was a proud graduate of Portsmouth High School and an active member of The Chapel-Port Clinton Campus. She was also a dedicated member of VFW #7572 in Marblehead and the American Legion in Sandusky. Carrie had a passion for cooking and a talent for cake decorating. Her love for children was evident in the joy she found in spending time with them.

Carrie is survived by her husband, Alfred Sowards, whom she married on July 18, 1953. She is also survived by her son, Verl (Lisa) Sowards of Hudson, Florida; two daughters, Vanessa Sowards of Sandusky and Victoria Sowards of Port Clinton; two grandchildren, Brad Sowards of Palm Beach, Florida, and Rebecca (Mike) Deverso of Galena, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Lexie Sowards, Marin Deverso, Avery Deverso, Peyton Deverso; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Carrie is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Cline and Deana Ruth Cline, four brothers, Ronald Darby, Lee Darby, Mark Darby, and Chuck Darby; and her sister, Margaret Elam.

Friends may gather on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 12:00 noon, until time of Memorial Service at 2:00 pm, at The Chapel – Port Clinton Campus, 4650 E Port Clinton Eastern Rd, Port Clinton, Ohio 43452 with Pastor Todd Neilson presiding.
