CATAWBA ISLAND – The Catawba Island Historical Society (CIHS) is collaborating with McCarthy’s Irish Pub of Port Clinton to attract new and renewing members. A St. Patrick’s Day drawing will be held on Tuesday, March 17, among CIHS patrons with current memberships. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate from McCarthy’s.

The event is being held to attract support of CIHS efforts to preserve and protect the area’s lakeshore heritage. Those who have subscribed to a 2026 membership by Monday, March 16, will be entered. The winning name will be drawn at Catawba’s Union Chapel history museum the following day.

St. Patrick’s Day commemorates the death date of Ireland’s major patron saint in c.461. It is a worldwide celebration of Irish culture. Some of the most popular places to be in the United States for the festivities include New York City, which hosts the world’s oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day parade. It dates back to 1762. Another is Chicago, which colors its river green for about two hours with an ecofriendly vegetable dye.

“McCarthy’s Irish Pub is the place to be locally,” said Debbie Newman, Chairperson of the CIHS membership committee. “The McCarthy name is derived from a Gaelic word that means ‘loving.’ The winner of our drawing will definitely ‘love’ the amount of Guinness Stout and corned beef that a $100 gift certificate can buy!”

Joining or renewing a membership helps support the historical society.
