Celebrate ‘A Lakeside Christmas’ dinner, movies, Jingle Jump, sleigh rides, Village Lights

Start a new family tradition this holiday season and celebrate “A Lakeside Christmas” on Saturday, Dec. 7. For the third year, Lakeside Chautauqua has expanded its Community Christmas Dinner into an all-day event filled with children’s activities, visit from Santa, sleigh rides, family entertainment, holiday shopping, dining and much more. Holiday movies will also be featured on Friday and Saturday.

Festivities will be held in conjunction with the Marblehead Merchants’ “Village Lights,” an event that highlights local shops and restaurants on the Marblehead Peninsula. Admission and parking for both events are free. For details, visit lakesideohio.com/christmas.

Friday, Dec. 6 Pajama Party & Christmas Movie: “The Polar Express” (G) 7 p.m., Orchestra Hall, 122 Second St. in Lakeside, Free-will offering/donation for admission

Come in your pajamas and take a magical adventure to the North Pole. “The Polar Express” is a musical fantasy film based on the 1985 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. After the pajama party, receive a sleigh bell to take home.

Christmas Movie: “The Man Who Invented Christmas” (PG) 9 p.m., Orchestra Hall, 122 Second St. in Lakeside, Free-will offering/donation for admission

This holiday film tells the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters from Charles Dickens’ novel A Christmas Carol.

Saturday, Dec. 7 Jingle Jump 12 p.m., Pavilion/Beach , near 150 Maple Ave. in Lakeside, Free-will offering/donation for participation

Those who consider themselves warm-blooded, brave-of-heart and in generally good health are invited to take a chilly jump into the lake. There’s no fee to participate, but all participants (individuals and teams) are invited to make a donation to the Lakeside Annual Fund in support of the lakefront. Awards will be given to: Best Dressed Jumper, Jumper with the Most Team Spirit, Most Festive Jumper, and Most Money Raised by an Individual or Team. Register at lakesideohio.com/jinglejump. Day-of jump registration starts at 11:30 a.m. near the Pavilion/Beach.

Marblehead Merchants’ “Village Lights” 12-7 p.m., Village of Marblehead & Lakeside Chautauqua

Eat, drink and shop local. Several businesses throughout the Village of Marblehead and Lakeside Chautauqua will be open with drawings throughout the day.

North Pole Workshop 12:30-2 p.m., Fountain Inn, 225 Maple Ave. in Lakeside, $4/child

Children of all ages are invited to visit Santa Claus and take part in holiday crafts and story time with the Grinch. Milk and cookies will be served. Registration is available from 12:15-1:30 p.m. in the Fountain Inn Lobby.

Sleigh Rides 1-4 p.m., Meet at Corner of Maple Ave. & Third St., near the Fountain Inn (225 Maple Ave. in Lakeside), $3/person

Enjoy a 15-minute horse-drawn sleigh ride throughout Lakeside. All ages welcome. For each ride, there’s a max of four adults or six family members (with smaller children). Sign up at the table on the corner of Maple Ave. & Third St.; first come, first served.

Family Concert with Chip Richter 2:15-3:15 p.m., Orchestra Hall, 122 Second St. in Lakeside

Chip Richter’s free family concert features something for everyone, offering fun, high-energy music with a positive message that connects with children and adults alike.

Community Christmas Dinner 5-7:30 p.m., Wesley Lodge, 510 Central Ave. in Lakeside $25/adult, $10/child ages 5-12, children age 4 and under free

This special evening includes a visit from Santa, appetizers, dinner buffet and a Christmas carol sing-a-long following dinner. Doors open at 5 p.m.; dinner served at 5:45 p.m.

The buffet menu features beef short ribs, stuffed chicken with a parmesan sauce, au gratin potatoes, green beans, salad, bread, gourmet cupcakes, water, iced tea and coffee. The children’s menu includes chicken fingers, mac and cheese and applesauce. Due to limited seating, reservations must be made by 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 or until reservations are full.
